Shiguseiganmon - The Four Great Vows

The Master or the assistant chants alone Shu jo muhen seigan do

All together, hands in gassho

  • Bonno mujin seigandan
  • Homon muryo seigangaku
  • Butsu do mujo seigando

Translation / meaning:

  • However numerous the beings, I vow to save them all.
  • However numerous the passions, I vow to overcome them all.
  • However numerous the Dharma, I vow to master them all.
  • However perfect the Buddha, I vow to attain that state.

The Master chants the Eko Hands in gassho, all together

  • Ji ho san sh i shi fu
  • Shi son bu sa mo ko sa
  • Mo ko ho jya ho ro mi

Meaning / dedication:

  • All Buddhas of the past, present, and future in the ten directions.
  • All Bodhisattvas and patriarchs.
