The Shinjinmei : “Poem on Faith in Mind” : is one of the foundational texts of Zen Buddhism. Composed by Sosan (Jianzhi Sengcan), the third Chinese Zen patriarch, it expresses in just a few hundred lines the essence of awakening: non-duality, letting go of preferences, and total confidence in the true nature of mind.
In this first volume, Master Kosen comments on the poems of the Shinjinmei through his kusens : teachings transmitted orally during zazen, from within the meditation posture itself. Spoken in the silence of seated meditation, these words carry the living spirit of an authentic practice rooted in the lineage of Master Deshimaru.
